In mid-June, several Dargon Project writers gathered in Denver, Colorado for
the first DargonZine Writers' Summit. What follows are several photographs from
that trip. Clicking on each thumbnail image brings up a larger version of the
picture with a more detailed caption.
Over our four days together, we tested the new Denver airport baggage handling system,
visited VacuumHenge, accepted propaganda from a six-foot tall hot pepper, enjoyed a
quick-poured Guinness, lost or smashed several cameras and camcorders, crossed grocery store picket lines,
figured out where those red rocks came from, planned a spelunker ambush, and successfully
defended our hubcaps from prairie dog attacks.
But amidst all this non-stop fun we also had a lot of very productive topical discussions.
We strategized about how to improve the quality of our peer reviews, and how to get our writers
to share how they come up and develop story ideas. We also talked about what we need to do to
prepare for DargonZine future; ideas included potential resources to provide
more graphics for the Web page, incorporation, and trademarks. We also kicked around ideas
for the next DargonZine tee-shirt/sweatshirt, which will feature the Web site banner.
Everyone left the summit feeling like they had grown, and we made firm plans for the
1997 Dargon Writers' Summit to take place in the spring in Washington D.C.!
