2000 Dargon Writers' Summit Photos

Probably the most exhilirating event of the Summit was this naturally-formed water slide at Ohiopyle State Park. Ohiopyle is located about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, in the 1,700 foot deep Youghiogheny River Gorge, where the river cuts through Laurel Ridge. The park includes 18,000 acres of rugged terrain, and is a favorite area for whitewater boating.

This photograph shows the top third of a lengthy water slide in a stream that eventually feeds into the larger river. At center, Dargon's Scots writer Stuart Whitby seems to be taking the ride well, but just outside the frame of this photograph he'll be dropped and spun around on a wild ride to the bottom.
