2002 Dargon Writers' Summit Photo

True to legend, tree-lined Loch Ness was shrouded in mist and mystery. The loch is 24 miles long, but rarely more than a mile wide, and essentially cuts Scotland in half, from the North Sea to the Sea of the Hebrides. It is the UK's largest freshwater lake, and with an average depth of 700 feet, it is deep enough to submerge the world's entire human population, three times over.

In this picture, Ornoth appears to be undertaking his own expedition to track down "Nessie", but in reality he's only trying to come away with a souvenir: a golf ball that some tourist had hit into the loch.
