2004 Dargon Writers' Summit Photo

After our waterfall tour, we hustled to see the sunset at the Vista House on Crown Point. At 733 feet above the river, the octagonal stone structure commands a thirty-mile view of the Columbia River Gorge. The gorge is the western terminus of both Lewis and Clark's expedition as well as the Oregon Trail that brought settlers through the Cascades to the Pacific Northwest.

Present in this picture are: Jon Evans (kneeling), and (left to right) P. Atchley, Rena Deutsch, Summit host Jim Owens, Dafydd, Liam Donahue, and Ornoth. You can also view their bios by clicking on their images at left.

This gathering was particularly important because seven of the ten writers working on our big story arc attended. The series was begun at the 2003 Summit, and was nearing completion when this year's event took place. During our working sessions, we took the time to review our progress, discuss how we each felt about our participation, celebrate the contributions of several individuals, and plan the work still to do.

We discovered that this was the first real collaboration for three of our veteran writers. With more than 50 man-years on the project and a hundred stories between them, they felt that the arc will be their first collaboration since joining us in the mid-1980s! That's quite a testament to the success of the arc, and we're anxious to bring it to you just as quickly as we can.
