Each year, a different writer hosts the Summit, and it's a lot of work. The Summit host has to book accommodations and meeting space, meet people at (and drop them off again at) the airport, figure out meals that everyone will eat, rent and drive the van for group transportation, plan all the recreational activities, and anything else that's needed to make the weekend as pleasant an experience as possible for everyone. It's no wonder, then, that whenever we get a picture of a Summit host, they look dead tired. In this photo, Victor sets a new standard for looking stunned and ready for a nap on the final evening of a Summit. If you think these two look like an old married couple, perhaps you're not far from the mark. Lest we leave you wondering, the gentlemen sitting with Victor is David, his partner. Although he's not a Dargon writer, he became a good friend of ours when he accompanied Victor throughout our 12-day Scotland Summit in 2002. He also deserves our thanks and recognition for the assistance he provided to Victor in hosting the Summit. It's a big job and a ton of work, and they did a marvelous job, providing us with a very relaxed, comfortable, and enjoyable Summit this year. They have every right to this brief moment of sitting in the sunshine along the lakeside. Thanks, Victor and David! | |
