Most of our writers arrived early in order to spend an extra day in town. Friday's activities began with a drive down to Hoover Dam, the second highest dam in the United States. Made without the use of rebar, the concrete is still curing, over seventy years after the dam's completion. Built in the 1930s, the dam also incorporates a number of interesting art deco features, including two 30-foot bronze statues. Pictured is one of the two couples who attended this year's Summit: Jim Owens and his wife Naomi, who drove all the way down from Oregon. After spending the weekend with the group, Naomi even decided to join the group as a contributing writer herself, and we look forward to seeing her work printed in the zine soon! | |
