Each year one of our writers hosts our annual Dargon Writers' Summit, where our writers from all over the world get together to meet one another, get some work done, and have fun.
Our host for Summit 2000 was Mark Murray, one of the most prolific writers in our group. He lives near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and we used a hotel near the Pittsburgh airport as our meeting place and base of operations.
This year eleven writers were in attendance: Mark Murray, Jon Evans, Ornoth Liscomb, Carlo Samson, Max Khaytsus, Dafydd Cyhoeddwr, Stuart Whitby, P. Atchley, Rena Deutsch, Rhonda Gomez, and J.D. Kenyon.
At right are thumbnail versions of some of the pictures we took at the Summit. Clicking on an image on this page will bring up the full-sized picture with a more detailed caption. The photos generally are a reasonably-sized 60-90k each.
This year, Asstant Editor Jon Evans stepped up to lead all our working sessions, and he did a great job, bringing new ideas and enthusiasm to the business portion of the weekend. Topics included why we write, how stories develop, character development, our mentoring system, communication styles, our new town map, our upcoming Web redesign, incorporation, and goal setting. Team-building exercises included trust falls, a Dargon card game, a spontaneous writing exercise, and improvisational storytelling.
After our working sessions were done, we headed afield to find some fun. We visited Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, the Ohiopyle State Park, the Andy Warhol Museum, Church Brew Works, the Duquesne Incline, and Eracers, an entertainment center with go-karts, miniature golf, and bumper boats.
